The Emojability App: Smartphone Fun for the Special Needs Community

Emojis are everywhere. They are not only on our phones, but they are on t-shirts, toys, party supplies and there is even going to be a movie based off of the phenomenon. The reason why emojis have gained such a grand following is due to their ability to facilitate communication. This is especially true for individuals with disabilities. However, there are a lack of emojis that are representative of the lifestyle of individuals with disabilities. To rectify this the Gillette Children’s Specialty Hospital teamed up with the mobile messaging platform Snaps to create “Emojability.” Emojability is a free downloadable app that provides emojis that showcase the everyday activities of those with special needs.
