Creator of Popular Video Game, Overwatch, Reveals that One of the Characters has Autism

The popular video game Overwatch is known for its emphasis on diversity. The team behind the game desires to create the most diverse and accepting multiplayer video game on the market. The game has had both ethnically diverse and gender diverse individuals and most recently it has been discovered that the game includes a neurodiverse individual. In a letter to a fan, Overwatch creator Jeffrey Kaplan confirmed that the character Symmetra is on the autism spectrum. Kaplan stated that “Symmetra is autistic. She is one of our most beloved heroes and we think she does a great job of representing just how awesome someone with autism can be.” Kaplan and Overwatch reflect the true spirit of inclusion and diversity, that all individuals can be of importance and that what makes someone unique is not the only trait that defines them.
